We want to inform you of the latest USPS price adjustment notice filing with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) which becomes effective today, January 27, 2019, on “Market Dominant” products. We will be seeing an average increase in Marketing/Presort mail of nearly 2.5%. Some products will see large increases while others will jump up just slightly, or for a few, there will be a small decrease in price.
Market Dominant product rate increases must meet specific regulatory requirements, the most noteworthy being that these increases are no greater than the rate of inflation, as determined by the Consumer Price Index. Also, the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act requires, among other things, that rates for Competitive products must produce sufficient revenues to ensure they are not subsidized by Market Dominant products.
Rates for marketing mail letters will see varying degrees of increase, from 0.7% to 4.5% depending on carrier route. Marketing mail flats will see some of the largest increases particularly in the 3-digit, ADC, and Mixed ADC Automation Flats. Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) will see a fairly significant jump from 17.8¢ to 18.7¢ per piece.
